TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – TCU junior Agnes Kemboi finished in 113th place at the 2011 NCAA Cross Country Championships, becoming the first female Horned Frog to compete since 2004.

“I am extremely happy for Agnes and her performance today, considering it was her first time to race at the NCAA Championships,” TCU cross country head coach Liz Wort said. “This is a huge race. She got buried early and had a hard time passing people, but I think this was a great experience for her. This should be a great incentive and motivator to not only get her ready for next cross country season, but also for the track season this spring.”

The Eldoret, Kenya native executed a time of 21:08.6 to finish 113th out of 254 runners in the women’s 6,000-meter race. Despite wet and windy conditions, Kemboi kept a solid pace throughout the race, hitting the halfway point with a mark of 10:19.

Monday’s race was Kemboi’s first appearance at the NCAA Championships, marking the seventh time in the last nine years that the Frogs have sent at least one individual to the national meet. She became the first TCU female competitor at the NCAA Cross Country Championships since Mary Kinyanjui and Calandra Stewart qualified in 2004.

The 2011 fall season was a banner year for Kemboi after claiming South Central All-Region and All-Mountain West first-team honors. She earned third place distinction at the conference meet and was a three-time MW Athlete of the Week honoree this fall. Kemboi enjoyed top-six finishes in all of her races leading up to the national meet.
