Kangogo places 33rd at the NCAA Cross Country Championships

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - The 2005 cross country season wrapped up today with TCU distance runner Kip Kangogo finishing 33rd out of 253 competitors to close out his senior campaign at the NCAA Cross Country Championships in Terre Haute, Ind. The native from Kabarnet, Kenya, crossed the finish line 2.8 seconds shy of All-American status. He completed the 10,000-meter race on the LaVern Gibson Championship Course in 30:15.8. "Kip had a very solid finish to an outstanding senior year," cross country coach Patrick Cunniff said. "We're excited about the shape he's in as we prepare for the indoor and outdoor track seasons." Kangogo was the lone Horned Frog competing at the national event. The senior earned all-region honors in the South Central division after covering the 10,000-meter race in 30:34.60. He finished fourth out of 108 competitors in the region. Kangogo finished among the top five in every meet prior to nationals this year, including three first-place showings. He also turned in a runner-up finish at the Pre-Nationals meet, came in third at the Mountain West Conference championships and placed fourth at the South Central Regional meet. In addition, Kangogo received All-MWC recognition as a first-team choice for his performance at the league's championships. Wisconsin took home the men's team title paced by Simon Bairu, who won the individual honors with a time of 29:15.9. On the women's side, Stanford took the team win by placing three runners in the top 20 and Northern Arizona's Johanna Nilsson broke the tape for the individual championship with a 19:33.9 mark.
