WACO, Texas - TCU's Agnes Kemboi got her senior season off to a great start at the Bear Twilight Invitational at Baylor University. Kemboi crossed the line in second place overall with a time of 13:40.1 for her 4K.
"Agnes ran really well," cross country head coach Liz Wort said. "She has not been feeling well, but she ran really tough. The Baylor runner who took first is a very good athlete. It was a respectable performance for the first event of the year."
The Horned Frogs women placed four runners in the top-20. Among the four was freshman Ashley Eckhoff, who placed in 11th on her TCU debut in a time of 14:13.1. Senior Tricia Terry finished 14th (14:20.1) and fellow senior Katie Dalton took 18th (14:42.2). The women's team finished fourth in the team standings on 78 points.
"Ashley has been looking good in practice, even with adjusting to the Texas heat coming from Wisconsin," Wort noted. "She is a tough little racer. She was excited with her performance, and it is something very good to build off of."
The men were led by Preston Newsome, who finished in 10th with a 6K time of 19:13.1. Taylor Moult also put up a solid showing with a 20th place finish in 19:44.5. The TCU men also finished fourth, with 108 points in the team standings.
"Preston always runs tough," Wort said. "He always gives 100 percent, and has been building off of what he did last year. He ran much faster than he did in his opening 6K last year."
TCU will be back in action on Saturday, Sept. 15 when they compete at the Ken Garland Invitational in Denton, Texas.
