Frogs Fall to Spartans in Four
SAN JOSE, California (Oct. 21) The TCU volleyball team suffered a weekend sweep by falling to the San Jose Spartans 3-1 at the Event Center. San Jose ran its record to 16-5 (7-1 WAC) and remains a game behind Hawai'i in the WAC standings. The loss pushed TCU's record back to 12-12 overall and 4-4 in the WAC.
A 15-13 come from behind victory in game one was keyed by a pair of service aces by Lindsay Hayes. TCU took its first lead of the game at 14-13 and managed one more point for the first game victory. A different team showed up in games two in and three for the Frogs as they struggled on offense and dropped the middle pair 15-6 and 15-7. San Jose opened game for with a big lead before the Frogs put together a pair of mini-runs to get back into it, only to fall short 15-12.
"I was very pleased with how hard we fought back in games one and four," said head coach Sandy Troudt. "Now we just need to put together a whole match of good volleyball."
TCU's struggles on offense continued as they were out hit on offense .254 to .325 for the match. The Frogs managed better defense as they recorded 10 blocks and 60 digs.
Marci King led the Frogs with 21 kills and recorded her 13th double-double of the season. Jen Cuca collected 15 kills on a career high 53 attempts. In addition to her 15 kills Cuca recorded 11 digs for her third double-double of the season. Amy Atamanczuk and Jennifer Sebastian added 10 kills apiece.
TCU gets a break from traveling for a while as they host Hawail'i and Nevada on back-to-back nights October 27 and 28, followed by a one match weekend November 3 versus Tulsa.
