Volleyball Defeats Chicago State, 3-0
LAWRENCE, Kan. - (Sept. 11) TCU swept Chicago State in three games (15-2, 15-5, 15-5) in its final match at the Hampton Inn Jayhawk Classic at the Horejsi Family Athletics Center. The match, which lasted just 46 minutes, was the shortest ever for TCU. The 12 combined points by Chicago State was the fewest ever scored by a TCU opponent.
The Horned Frogs, winners of two of three matches at the tournament, improve to 3-6 on the season. Chicago State remains winless at 0-7. With its second win in as many matches, this marks the first time that TCU has won two in a row since Nov. 13-14, 1998, when TCU defeated UNLV and Air Force at home.
Amongst the Frogs who performed well were sophomore outside hitter Marci King (The Woodlands, Texas/The Woodlands HS) with eight kills and sophomore setters Lindsay Hayes (Sugar Land, Texas/Clements HS) and Rachel Shirley (Stevensville, Mich/Lakeshore HS) had 16 and 14 assists respectively. Every players entered the match to play against the Cougars who lost their 63rd consecutive match, a streak which includes all of this season and the entirety of the last two seasons.
The Horned Frogs finished the Jayhawk Classic with a 2-1 record. Auburn is currently 2-0 in tournament play, followed by Kansas at 1-1. The Jayhawks and Tigers meet immediately following the TCU/CSU match. All-tournament teams will be announced at the conclusion of the Auburn/Kansas match.
TCU returns home for a mid-week match. The Horned Frogs host defending Southland Conference champion and NCAA tournament participant Southwest Texas State on Tuesday, Sept. 14 at 7 p.m. at the Rickel Center. The Frogs then host the five team TCU Invitational, welcoming North Texas, Stephen F. Austin State, Villanova and Colgate, beginning Friday, Sept. 17, at the Rickel Center.
