VolleyFrogs Fall to UAB in Four
Oct. 28, 2001
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The TCU volleyball team (6-16, 2-9 C-USA) fell to UAB (9-14, 2-10 C-USA) in four games on Sunday in Birmingham. The Frogs winless streak extends to four games with the loss.
Game one began with the teams trading points until UAB scored 17 to TCU's four to lead 27-14. TCU made a run of its own late, getting back to within five before falling in game one 30-25.
The Frogs refused to let game two go the way of game one and jumped out to a quick 5-0 lead behind the serving of sophomore Courtney Beach. TCU was able to capitalize on the mental errors of the Blazers and extend the lead to as many as ten before UAB made a run. TCU finished the game out and took the game 30-25 to tie the match up going into intermission.
Following intermission, both teams capitalized on the others' mistakes trading points throughout game three. UAB took the lead late, leading by as many as four (28-24) before TCU got back in the game and pulled within one. However, the Blazers took the game 30-28 to lead the match 2-1.
UAB controlled the fourth game throughout to win 30-18 after leading by as many as 13.
"We played better in the second and third games," said head coach Sandy Troudt. "We got behind so quickly in the fourth game, we couldn't get out of the hole. Amber Sims and Courtney Beach provided sparks off the bench for us."
The Frogs are back in the metroplex to visit Texas-Arlington on Tuesday, October 30. The squad heads for New Orleans to play Tulane on Friday, November 2 and to Hattiesburg, Miss. to play Southern Miss on Saturday, November 3.
