VolleyFrogs Fall to Charlotte in Four
Oct. 19, 2001
FORT WORTH, Texas - The TCU volleyball team (6-13, 2-6 C-USA) dropped a four-game match to the 49ers of Charlotte (9-11, 2-8 C-USA) on Friday in the Rickel Center. Junior Jenn Cuca posted her eighth double-double of her career (10 kills, 10 digs).
Game one was a point-for-point tradeoff as the 49ers took the early lead and TCU could not get over the hump. Charlotte took the game 30-21, after scoring six of the last seven points of the game.
The second game saw the Frogs jump out to a quick lead, topping the 49ers by as many as six throughout the game before pulling away with the win, 30-20. TCU's blocking improved during game two, as did its attack on the ball. Tough serving by senior Allison Lynch late as well as solid play from the Frogs helped send TCU into intermission with the match tied at 1-1.
What looked like it would be a second Frog win in the third game turned out to be the 49ers instead as they took the game 30-27. TCU led until the 25-26 mark when Charlotte scored on a service error by junior Stephanie Watson to take the final lead of the game.
Game four was close in the early going until Charlotte broke out on a scoring run powered by Megan Mosness to take a 24-17 lead. The Frogs again made a run late before Charlotte put it away 30-24.
"They just outplayed us," said head coach Sandy Troudt. "They were hot in the first game, especially with their serving. We were able to make adjustments in the second game. In the third game, we were in control until the 25 all mark, then we let it get away."
TCU was led by Lynch with 12 kills, 28 attacks and six blocks for the night. Cuca and senior Marci King each had 10 digs, while senior Lindsay Hayes added 30 assists. Cuca also posted two aces to lead the squad.
The Frogs host the East Carolina Pirates on Saturday at 7:00 p.m. in the Rickel Center. Next week TCU begins a six-match road streak at South Florida and UAB on Friday, October 26 and Sunday, October 28, respectively.
