Emily Allen and Talaya Whitfield Earn All-TCU Molten Invitational Honors

FORT WORTH, Texas - The TCU Horned Frogs earned their second win of the day in the match against the Prairie View A&M Panthers. The Frogs finished the TCU Molten Invitational 2-1 with a 9-5 overall record going into next week's Conference USA opener. Sophomore right-side hitter Emily Allen and freshman libero Talaya Whitfield each earned all-tournament honors for their weekend performances.
The Frogs quickly swept the Panthers in just over an hour, taking the first game in a mere 15 minutes, 30-7. Overall, the Frogs hit an outstanding .424 percent (48 kills, nine errors, 92 attempts), fifth-best in program history. In particular, senior Ellen Rehme hit 17 kills with four errors and 32 attacks for a .406 average and sophomore Anna Vaughn hit 14 kills with one error in 22 attempts for a an impressive .591 attack average, sixth-best in TCU records.
Whitfield led the Frogs in digs for the 13th time this year, collecting 14 in the short match. Allen set a new TCU match record in aces when she cheated Prairie View out of seven on her own, accounting for over half of TCU's aces.
The Frogs kick off the Conference USA season Oct. 1 and Oct. 2 with a home twinbill featuring Tulane on Friday at 7 p.m. CDT and Southern Miss on Saturday at 7 p.m. CDT.
