Volleyball Falls to Tech in Three
Sept. 4, 2001
LUBBOCK, Texas - The TCU volleyball team dropped its fourth consecutive match of the season as it fell to the Red Raiders of Texas Tech at the United Spirit Arena in Lubbock. The Frogs fall to 0-4, while the Red Raiders improve to 2-2.
The VolleyFrogs (0-4, 0-0) started strong in game one with a quality team effort in both serving and defense, leading 13-11 at one point. However, Tech came back with two serving series that capitalized on the mental errors of the Frogs, to win the game 30-19.
Game two started with a service error by the Frogs giving the Red Raiders a lead they would not relinquish. TCU pulled within two points several times, including once late in the game on a service ace by senior Allison Lynch, but dropped game two 30-25.
The final game of the match saw the Frogs playing better in long rallies as they won a couple of points off of these plays. Junior Jennifer Cuca made several big plays on defense to keep Frog rallies going, however, the Frogs couldn't make up the deficit from early on and lost game three 30-22.
According to head coach Sandy Troudt, "We worked really hard on our floor defense and blocking after the (UConn) tournament, and I think our blocking improved tremendously. I was disappointed with our outside game. Domi (Szabo) struggled tonight. Marci King hit every play and did what we asked her to."
TCU will look to end its road woes when it travels to Montana State's Holiday Inn Classic to take on Montana State on Friday, and the University of Denver and Indiana State on Saturday.
