FORT WORTH, Texas -
The TCU track and field programs will open the 2011-12 indoor season Saturday at the Texas A&M Reveille Invitational in College Station. The Horned Frogs will compete against Houston and host Texas A&M with events set to begin at 12:30 p.m. inside Gilliam Indoor Track Stadium.

The meet schedule at the Reveille Invitational will include the 60 meters, 800 meters, 5000 meters (men), 60 hurdles, 4x400 relay, distance medley relay, high jump, pole vault, long jump, shot put and weight throw. Results and updates from the meet will be available through flashresults.com.

In his eighth year as head coach, Darryl Anderson and the 2012 TCU track and field program will look to leave their final mark on the Mountain West Conference with a large group of talented newcomers and several outstanding returning upperclassmen. Senior All-American long jumper Whitney Gipson highlights the women's roster, while the men's squad will look to junior sprinter Charles Silmon.

Gipson, a four-time All-American from Newark, Texas, returns to the air for the Frogs after leaping a personal-best 21-11 ½ feet for first place honors at the 2011 Penn Relays. Her performance set the long jump benchmark for the meet and Franklin Field. Gipson claimed gold medals in both the indoor and outdoor championships for the Mountain West in 2011. She garnered a pair of first-team All-America honors last season with a sixth-place finish at the NCAA Indoor Championships and fourth-place performance at the outdoor championships.

Silmon claimed a pair of second-team All-America accolades in 2011, finishing 15th overall in the 100-meters and 200-meters at the NCAA Outdoor Championships. The Waco, Texas native headlined the 2011 Mountain West Outdoor Championships meet, receiving the meet's Outstanding Male Performance Award after capturing the men's 100-meter and 200-meter titles and anchoring the Frogs' gold medal 4x100 relay team.

TCU welcomed more than 30 newcomers to the men's and women's squads this summer, including some of the most talented athletes from around the world. The sprints program welcomed the likes of Candace Longino-Thomas, Ashle Caldwell, Ashley Collins and Neferteria Hall on the women's side, while the men's squad introduced Fort Worth native Joshua Washington, Robert Lewis III and Ronald Manning, Jr.

From the infield, the Frogs' jumps group added international standouts Ramone Bailey from Kingston, Jamaica and Lorraine Ugen of London, England. Bailey was a CARIFTA Games champion and a Jamaican national champion in the long jump, while Ugen claimed the 2010 South of England Under-20 long jump crown and also won gold to help England win the 2010 Indoor Under-20 Celtic Cup. In 2009, Ugen swept the Aviva England Athletics Under-20 indoor and outdoor long jump titles.

Megan Smith and Paul Osunwa highlight the recruiting class for the throwing program. Smith was one of the nation's top shot putters as a two-time all-state selection in both the shot put and discus from Olathe, Kan. Osunwa transferred to TCU after spending two years at Northern Arizona University. After redshirting his first season, the Ontario, Calif., native qualified for the 2011 Big Sky Championships in the shot put.

The indoor schedule will consist of three trips to College Station, beginning with the season opener at the Texas A&M Reveille Invitational a week from today (Dec. 10). The Frogs will make a return trip to Aggieland for the Texas10-Team Invitational at Texas A&M on Jan. 14, followed by the two-day Razorback Invitational in Fayetteville, Ark. (Jan. 27-28). TCU will wrap-up the indoor regular season at the Texas A&M Invitational (Feb. 11), before preparing for the Mountain West Indoor Championships in Albuquerque, N.M. (Feb 23-25).  The 2012 NCAA Indoor Championships are set for March 9-10 in Boise, Idaho.
