TCU men earn top honor from Track and Field News
Aug. 21, 2006 FORT WORTH, Texas - The TCU men's track and field team recently picked up an impressive honor, as Track and Field News tapped the Flyin' Frogs as the country's top relay team for the 2006 season. In Track and Field News' September issue, which hit newsstands last week, the publication listed its 50th annual relay rankings for both
men's and women's programs. In the publication, the TCU men earned the program's first No. 1 ranking since 1986 by edging second-ranked LSU by one point (30-29) in the scoring system. By earning the top ranking, TCU snapped the SEC's men's streak at seven. "It is exciting to win the 50th annual relay rankings by Track and Field News," head coach Darryl Anderson said. "Track and Field News is a huge resource at not only the collegiate level, but the international level. It is a phenomenal honor and it just shows what hard work can do for us." The rankings were compiled by using a point scale of 10-9-8-7-6-5-4-3-2-1 (5-4-3-2-1 for shuttle hurdles), which awarded points based on rankings for the eight relay events. Despite not leading the rankings in a single event, the Flyin' Frogs were able to win the overall title by ranking no worse than fifth in four of the eight events. LSU finished first in the rankings in two events, but was only ranked in a total of three events, compared to TCU's four events. TCU was ranked fifth in the 4 x 100, fourth in the 4 x 200, second in the 4 x 400 and third in the sprint medley. On the women's side, LSU earned the top spot with a point total of 42. The Tigers' victory extended the SEC's streak of earning the top ranking on the women's side to eight straight years.
