Aug. 9, 2008

Hi Flyin' Frogs,

Well I got to the opening ceremony at around 6:30 p.m., along with the other delegates and athletes of St. Kitts. We were put into the gymnastic stadium for holding for about two hours and then we lined up to go to the Olympic stadium, which was like 200 meters away. I wasn't nervous until the flag was given to me like 50 meters before we actually walked into the stadium. At that moment, I realized that I'm finally here and the moment and dream I have waited for all my life has finally become reality. To make it even better, I was the flag bearer for my country. As we began to walk inside the stadium, my heart raced like a speed car and I couldn't do anything but smile all the time. I walked into the stadium of thousands of people while my delegations of St. Kitts followed me with my flag held high as my countries name was called. My hands were shaking and my heart was still racing, but I made that moment the best moment ever as I marched around the track and got into position in the center of the track. As I stood there watching the other countries come into the stadium, I almost cried just watching everything around me and said this is not a dream anymore, I'm actually here at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, wow. The part that touched me was the lighting of the torch. The man made his way up to the top of the stadium by wires and then ran around the track holding up the torch. As I watched him go around the top of the track, I thought to myself how amazing it was but when he reached the Olympic torch in the stadium and lit it that's when tears began to flow down my eyes and I just realized dreams do come true. It reminded me of all the hard work I have put into this the past few years just to get here and how God has blessed me so much to reach this point. Let The Games Begin. I'm ready to compete and cannot wait to see the actual track that I'll be running on.

Thanks,

Virgil Hodge
