FORT WORTH, Texas - TCU head track and field coach Darryl Anderson announced Wednesday the hiring of assistant coaches Eric Heins and Jeff Petersmeyer to the TCU coaching staff.

At TCU, Heins will serve as the cross country and distance coach, while Petersmeyer will serve as the jumps coach and recruiting coordinator.

"I just feel like we did a great job of getting two young and up and coming coaches onto our staff," Anderson said. "We got two outstanding coaches that understand the importance of academics at a private institution and also have the experience of working with high-profile athletes. They will both jump right into TCU and help us move to the next level."

Heins comes to TCU after serving as an assistant track and cross country coach at Southeast Missouri State for three seasons (2003-2006). In three years at Southeast Missouri State, Heins helped coach the Redhawks to six Ohio Valley Conference Championships. Prior to coaching at Southeast Missouri State, Heins was an assistant track and cross country coach at Northern Arizona for two seasons (2001-2003). In his two seasons at Northern Arizona, the men's cross country team finished fourth and seventh at the NCAA Championships, while the women's team placed 10th and 12th.

Heins' coaching career began at Indiana in 2000, where he also served as an assistant track and cross country coach.

Heins earned his bachelor's degree in health promotion and education from Cincinnati in 1999 and his master's degree in kinesiology from Indiana in 2001.

During his college career at Cincinnati, Heins placed third in the 3000 meters and sixth in the 5,000 meters at the 1997 Indoor C-USA Championships. At the 1997 Outdoor C-USA Championships, Heins placed fourth in the 10,000 meters and seventh in the 5,000 meters. Heins completed his final eligibility while in graduate school at Indiana, where he competed during the indoor season.

Since exhausting his collegiate eligibility, Heins has run numerous marathons, including the 2004 St. Louis Marathon, where he finished first with a time of 2:25:42. Heins also finished fifth at the 2000 Marine Corps Marathon and first in his age group with a time of 2:30:30.

Petersmeyer joins the TCU staff after spending the last two seasons as an assistant track and cross country coach at his alma mater - Baldwin-Wallace College. While at Baldwin-Wallace, Petersmeyer served as recruiting coordinator and also worked with the jumpers, hurdlers and multi-events. Petersmeyer helped lead the women's team to four Ohio Athletic Conference Championships and coached 11 NCAA qualifiers.

Prior to coaching at Baldwin-Wallace, Petersmeyer was an assistant track and cross country coach at Columbia University from 2002-2004. At Columbia, Petersmeyer coached the school's first female Ivy League Champion in field events and recruited or coached over 10 qualifiers for the NCAA East Regional Championships. Under Petersmeyer's tutelage, 40 individual performances he coached were ranked in Columbia's all-time top-five list.

Petersmeyer was also an assistant track and cross country coach at Northern Arizona from 1999-2002 where he coached the jumpers, multi-events and assisted with the hurdles. At NAU, Petersmeyer helped the team win seven Big Sky Championships in cross country and track, including five top-12 team finishes in cross country at the NCAA Championships.

This will not be the first time Petersmeyer and Heins have served as assistants together on the same staff, as their tenures at Northern Arizona coincided from 2001-2002.

Petersmeyer's coaching career began at Allegheny College, where he served as a graduate assistant track and cross country coach from 1998-1999.

Petersmeyer earned bachelor's degrees in political science and history in 1996 from Baldwin-Wallace College. While assisting at Northern Arizona, Petersmeyer earned his master's degree in educational leadership in 2002.

Athletically, Petersmeyer was a two-time NCAA All-American and a nine-time Ohio Athletic Conference Champion. He also holds Baldwin-Wallace's school record in the 400 meter hurdles. Petersmeyer earned his All-America honors in the 400 meter hurdles and the 4x400 relay.
