Petersen Selected To Elite Coaching Camp
June 16, 2010
FORT WORTH, Texas - TCU assistant coach Nic Petersen was honored this past week by USA Track and Field as he was selected to the 2010 USATF Emerging Elite Coaches Camp.
The camp, which will be held at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista, Calif., is a week-long program in which Petersen will learn from some of the top coaches from across the country. The camp is set to begin on June 28 and will run through July 3 in California.
On Wednesday, Petersen was named one of only six collegiate coaches in the United States to receive a USA Track and Field coaching grant to attend the World Junior Coaching Seminar And Tutorial.
Petersen helped departing senior Neidra Covington earn two All-America accolades at the 2010 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Eugene, Ore. Covington, who won both the conference and NCAA West Preliminary Round title in the women's triple jump, was the only student-athlete in the Mountain West Conference to earn two All-America honors at nationals.
He also guided sophomore Whitney Gipson to a 12th-place finish in the women's long jump at Hayward Field. Gipson, who ranked in the top 10 in the event for most of the outdoor season, earned runner-up accolades at conference with the second-best leap in Mountain West Conference history.
