The TCU track & field team travels to Austin this week to take part in the 76th annual Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays at the Mike E. Myers Stadium, April 2-5.
"This will not be the typical TCU squad that runs at the Texas Relays," admitted TCU Head Coach Monte Stratton. "The injuries have taken its toll on the men's side. We will not field either a men's 4x1 or a 4x2 relay. I think our sprint medley team and the 4x4 will be very competitive. On the women's side, we'll run a 4x1, a 4x2 and a distance medley team," continued Stratton. "I expect to see some strong performances in those events."
The Flyin' Frogs have had their share of success at the Texas Relays over the years. The Frogs have captured Most Outstanding Team honors on four occasions: 1988, 1991, 2000 and 2001. They have featured the meet's Most Outstanding Performer three times: Percival Spencer in 1997 and Kim Collins in 2000 and 2001. They have won the university men's 4x100 meter relay title nine times: 1986, 1987, 1988, 1989, 1991, 1996, 1999, 2000 and 2001; and have won the university men's 4x200 meter relay eight times: 1975, 1983, 1988, 1989, 1991, 1992, 1993 and 2000. The men's sprint medley (200-200-400-800) has captured the gold medal at the Texas Relays on three previous occasions: 1982, 1998 and 2001. The TCU women took top honors in the 4x100 meter relay in 1997.
