March 28, 2006
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Sophomore Joe Brown has collected another accolade for his outstanding performance last week, being tabbed the Mountain West Conference Men's Outdoor Track and Field Athlete. He shares this week's league honor with Colorado State's Magnus Lohse. Brown, an Overland Park, Kan., native, set a new MWC all-time record, as well as a TCU school record with his personal-best javelin throw of 222'-5.00" (67.79m) at the Dr. Pepper Invitational in Waco, Texas, last week. His regional qualifying mark broke the previous conference record by three feet, and currently ranks as the eighth best throw in the nation. Lohse, a junior from Vallda, Sweden, won the shot put competition at the Rob Upton Invitational in Fort Collins last weekend. His career-best throw of 62'-11.25" (19.18m) is a new Colorado State school record and the fourth best mark in MWC history, as well as the second best mark in the nation. He won the event by over eight feet and helped the Rams to a 1-2-3 sweep. CSU's Katie Hansen took MWC Women's Outdoor Track and Field Athlete of the Week. She won the discus throw at the Rob Upton Invite with an NCAA regional qualifying throw of 167'-10.00" (51.17m). Her mark is currently 11th best in the nation. This is the first career weekly honor for all three recipients.
