Flyin' Frogs head to Last Chance Meet
March 1, 2007 FORT WORTH, Texas -- The TCU track and field team returns to action Friday when it competes at the Last Chance Meet in Fayetteville, Ark. The Last Chance Meet provides an opportunity for the Flyin' Frogs to make or improve upon NCAA qualifying marks. TCU will be represented by nine student-athletes as it makes its fourth visit to Fayetteville in the 2007 indoor campaign. "This indoor season has really been unique with the bad weather we've had outdoors," TCU coach Darryl Anderson said. "We've had nowhere to train." Virgil Hodge, who will not compete in the Last Chance Meet, is the lone Flyin' Frog to hit an NCAA automatic qualifying mark this indoor season. The junior from Bronx, N.Y., broke a Mountain West Conference indoor record with her time of 23.27 in the 200 meters at last weekend's MWC Championships. TCU's 4x400 women's relay team of Deborah Jones, Marquita Davis, Kishelle Paul and Nathandra John is ranked 10th nationally. The quartet will look to protect and improve upon its NCAA qualifying mark. John will also compete in the 400 meters after posting a TCU record and NCAA provisional time of 53.80 at the MWC Championships. Freshman Neidra Covington, the MWC triple jump champion, is ranked 16th nationally in that event and will look to improve her NCAA qualifying mark. On the men's side, Delwayne Delaney will compete in the 60 and 200 meters as well as the mile relay. Dell Guy will run in the 400 meters. The 4x400 meter relay team of Delaney, Guy, Clint Renfro and Raymond Jones will also participate. Renfro is a wide receiver on the TCU football team. "We're looking to end on a high note and head to nationals with who qualifies," Anderson said. "We'll then start our thing outdoors. "We're happy with where we're at, but we'll get better by May and June." The NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships begin March 9 in Fayetteville. The Flyin' Frogs' outdoor season opens March 24 with the Horned Frog Invite.
