TCU track and field to compete at MWC Indoor Championships
Feb. 21, 2007 ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - The TCU track and field team will travel to Albuquerque, N.M., this weekend to compete in the Mountain West Conference Indoor Championships held at the Albuquerque Convention Center Feb. 22-24.
"I want to see our kids compete hard and just go in there and see what we can do," said TCU head coach Darryl Anderson. "On the women's side, I'd like to go in and grab a top-three finish, and on the men's side, we're a little short-handed, but we're going to go in and see how well we can do."
The men's and women's teams both finished in third place behind BYU and Colorado State a year ago at the conference championships.
The Frogs are coming off a very successful showing at the Tyson Invitational held in Fayetteville, Ark., two weeks ago, which saw the 4x400 relay team of Nathandra John, Marquita Davis, Deborah Jones and Kishelle Paul set a school record with a time of 3:37.48. Neidra Covington, Jonathan Jackson, Candis Kelley and Virgil Hodge also had impressive performances, each earning NCAA provisional marks in their respective events.
Five conference teams will face off on the men's side, while the women will face all conference members. The action will begin on Thursday at 11:30 a.m. CT with the pentathlon event.
"This is a big weekend for us, not only how the team fares in the standings, but how we grow together as a team to prepare us for the outdoor season," Anderson said.
Live scoring will be available on www.themwc.com, and complete results at the conclusion of each day can be viewed at www.gofrogs.com.
