Langat named MWC Men's Indoor Track and Field Athlete of the Week
Feb. 15, 2006 COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - TCU senior Jackson Langat has been named Mountain West Conference Men's Indoor Track and Field Athlete of the Week. It is the first league weekly recognition for Langat. San Diego State's Erin Asay and Ashley Owens of UNLV were awarded MWC Women's Track and Field Co-Athlete of the Week honors. Langat, a Kericho, Kenya, native, set a new MWC all-time record individually and was a part of another all-time conference mark set at the Tyson Invitational last weekend in Fayetteville, Ark. On the first day of the meet, he set a new conference record in the 800 meter run, posting a provisional qualifying time of 1:47.86. The time broke Jeremiah Johnson's (Wyoming) previous best time by just under one second and is currently the fourth fastest in the nation. Langat then helped TCU's 4x400 relay provisionally qualify for the NCAA Championship by besting BYU's conference record time of 3:11.60 by over three seconds (3:08.14) on the way to a third-place finish. Langat is the third TCU track athlete to have received weekly recognition from the MWC this season. Bradley Reed and Virgil Hodge swept the honors in the first week of the 2006 indoor season on Jan. 17.
