TCU has strong second day at Razorback Invitational
Jan. 20, 2007 FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. -- Virgil Hodge and Jamee Jones were first and second, respectively, in the women's 60-meter dash, while Danielle Selner won the 3,000 meters as the TCU track and field team completed competition Saturday at the Razorback Invitational. Hodge's 7.43 in the 60 meters represented her second NCAA provisional time in the meet. On Friday, the junior from Bronx, N.Y., recorded a qualifying mark in the 200 meters. "It was good to see Virgil Hodge step back to the front of the line and get herself going," TCU track and field coach Darryl Anderson said. Jones had a time of 7.64 in the 60 meters. Selner, a freshman from Houston, won the women's 3,000 meters with a mark of 10:08.42. The Flyin' Frogs' 4x400 meter relay team of Deborah Jones, Marquita Davis, Kishelle Paul and Nathandra John recorded an NCAA provisional qualifying mark with a school-record time of 3:38.11 to finish second behind Louisiana Tech. Neidra Covington placed second in the women's triple jump with a leap of 12.47m (40-11.00). In the women's 400 meters, Deborah Jones was sixth with a mark of 55.06. On the men's side, Delwayne Delaney was fourth in the 60 meters with a personal-best time of 6.76. "This weekend was significantly better than last week and a step in the right direction," Anderson said. "We saw a lot of improvement in many areas and were more diverse by winning in distance events and doing well in field events. "We're looking to get in a groove with our training over the next month to prepare for the indoor conference championships (Feb. 23-24) and the start of the outdoor season (March 24, Horned Frog Invite)." TCU returns to action Feb. 3 at the Wes Kittley Invitational in Lubbock.
