Flyin' Frogs Open Indoor Season Saturday
Jan. 19, 2005 The TCU track & field squad will travel to Lubbock, Texas to open their indoor season on Saturday, January 22 in the Wes Kittley 6-Way Meet. Other schools slated to take part in the meet include Baylor, UTEP, UT-San Antonio, Florida and the host school, Texas Tech. "Obviously we're excited about getting the season started and taking a look at our kids in a competitive setting," said TCU head coach Darryl Anderson. "Whenever you line up against someone with a different uniform in the next lane, it turns on the competitive juices. I'm not concerned about our times or how we finish this week, I just want us to compete hard and start preparing for the Conference USA meet. After this meet our motivation for training should be a lot higher," noted Anderson. The TCU men's squad is slotted 22nd in this week's Trackwire 25 power ranking, as they are expected to score 11 points at the 2005 NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships, which will be held in Fayetteville, Arkansas, March 11-12. Trackwire's projections have the Frogs receiving six points from Kip Kangogo in the 3,000 meters, four points from Jackson Langat in the 800 meters, and one point from the 4x400 meter relay team. "We have a lot of talent on this squad," continued Anderson. "It's just going to take some time to get the kids where we want them to be." Arkansas, the defending NCAA outdoor champions, has a commanding lead as the top-ranked team on the men's side with 71 points. Michigan is a distant second with 36 points, followed by Indiana (33), Florida (32) and Texas (29). On the women's side, Tennessee is rated first with 50 points, followed by LSU (48), South Carolina (45) and Florida (44).
