Flyin' Frogs Ranked 20th to Open Season
Jan. 12, 2005 The TCU track & field men's squad is ranked in a tie for 20th place with Texas Tech in the first Trackwire 25 power ranking released today. The Flyin' Frogs are slated to score 12 points at the 2005 NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships, which will be held in Fayetteville, Arkansas March 11-12. Trackwire's projections have the Frogs receiving six points from Kip Kangogo in the 3,000 meters, three points from Jackson Langat in the 800 meters, two points from Jonathan Jackson in the long jump and one point from the 4x400 meter relay team. "I'm ecstatic that they think that much of us this early in the season," said TCU head coach Darryl Anderson. "We have a lot of work to do, but it's nice to be considered a top 20 team. If we continue to progress, I think we have a chance to have a great season." Arkansas, the defending NCAA outdoor champions, open the season as the top-ranked team on the men's side with 67 points. Florida and Michigan are tied for second with 34 points, followed by Indiana (33) and Texas (29). The Trackwire 25 is compiled by respected track & field statistician Gary Verigin. It projects a hypothetical scores for the NCAA meet, factoring in injury reports and other variables supported by information gathered from coaches and NCAA-qualifying competitions across the country. The projection is generated by scoring the Dandy Dozen, a power ranking of the top 12 athletes and relay squads in each NCAA event. The Flyin' Frogs, under new head coach Darryl Anderson, get the 2005 season underway on Saturday, January 22, when they travel to Lubbock to take part in the Wes Kittley 6-Way meet, featuring Florida, Baylor, UTEP and UT-San Antonio, along with TCU and the host school, Texas Tech.
