DES MOINES, Iowa - TCU opened competition at the 2008 NCAA Championships advancing two individuals and the men's 4x100 relay at Drake Stadium on Wednesday.

"We had our ups and downs today, but we had some qualifiers. It is unfortunate that both Virgil Hodge and Andon Mitchell didn't get through in the 100 because of adverse conditions, but everyone had to deal with the same brutal wind elements," said head coach Darryl Anderson. "Overall, we could've done better, but we got some people through. We just have to move on and do better tomorrow."

Senior Joe Brown opened the day qualifying for Friday's final in the men's javelin by placing third in his flight and eighth overall in semifinal action with a toss of 213 feet, 6 inches.

In the men's 4x100 semifinals, the Flyin' Frogs unit of Justyn Warner, Mychal Dungey, Andon Mitchell and Otis McDaniel crossed the finish line with a seasonal-best time of 39.55 seconds. The quartet finished third in their heat and seventh overall to advance to Friday's final round of action at Drake University.

Finally, Kishelle Paul, a junior from Georgia, clocked a time of 58.25 to finish 13th overall and fourth in her heat in the prelims of the 400-meter hurdles. Paul will advance to semifinal action tomorrow in Des Moines at 5:45 p.m.

TCU will continue competition tomorrow at the 2008 NCAA Track and Field Championships. Six-time All-American Virgil Hodge will begin action at 5:10 p.m. with the first-round of the women's 200 meters, while Dungey and McDaniel will follow at 5:25 p.m. on the men's side. Finally, the men's 4x400 unit will take to the track at 7:55 p.m. with semifinal competition at Drake Stadium.
