2012 NCAA Track and Field Outdoor Championships
Des Moines, Iowa
Head Coach Darryl Anderson
"I am so ecstatic for Whitney. She has had a remarkable career and been great for our program. She now has two NCAA titles and a collegiate record, which is a phenomenal career. We have been blessed to have had her in our program. I couldn't be more happy for her because she is one of the nicest young ladies that you will ever meet and has been from the day she stepped foot on our campus. She has her college degree in communications and has made both her family and TCU proud. Whitney is a remarkable young lady with a very bright future ahead of her. She now heads to Eugene to see if she can make the United States Olympic team."
Jumps Coach Nic Petersen
"This feels great and I am very proud of her. She came in and did exactly what she wanted to do and I am extremely happy for her. I told her to focus on her all week. She just needed to control herself and I knew if she did that then she would be just fine. I feel privileged to have coached her. She makes it a lot of fun to get up and come to work everyday."
National Champion Whitney Gipson
"This feels great and I am really happy that I was able to close out my career with another title. I just tried to block everything out this week. I couldn't worry about the pressure of repeating, so I just tried to have fun with it, which I did. It feels good to close my career this way."
Willa Gipson, Mother
"This feels amazing and I am so proud of her. As a family, we are just extremely proud of Whitney and TCU. This has been an incredible experience. The talent has always been there, but Coach Anderson and Coach Petersen really helped her to become who she is today. The credit goes to them because they really pushed her to get to this point. I am so thankful that TCU gave her the opportunity both athletically and academically to become the person she is today."
