Peoples competes in heptathlon on day one of MWC Outdoor Championships
May 9, 2007 SAN DIEGO, Calif. - Day one of the Mountain West Conference Championships began on Wednesday with Meaghan Peoples competing in the first four events of the heptathlon at the SDSU Sports Deck. A sophomore transfer from Iowa State, Peoples tallied 2,764 points and sits in eighth place after competing in the 100-meter hurdles, high jump, shot put and 200 meters. The heptathlon will conclude on Thursday with the long jump, javelin and 800 meters. Opening in the 100 hurdles, Peoples posted a time of 15.24 and totaled 810 points. In the high jump, the Weatherford, Texas, native had a leap of 4-11.75 (1.52m) and had 644 points. Competing in the shot put, Peoples had a toss of 32-02 (9.80m) and earned 516 points. In the final event of the day, Peoples clocked a time of 26.04 in the 200 meters and scored 794 points. Leading after the first four events is Colorado State's Emily Pearson, who earned 3,293 points. Peoples sits less than 200 points out of fifth place which is occupied by BYU's Sarah Lacey, who has 2,918 points.
The final three events of the heptathlon will commence at 2 p.m. CT on Thursday with the long jump.
