ARLINGTON, Texas – Megan Smith had a career-best day Saturday to lead TCU at the Bobby Lane Invitational Saturday at UT-Arlington Maverick Stadium. Smith picked up a win, a school record and two career-best throwing efforts.
Smith has become a star for the Horned Frogs in the women’s shot put in 2013 and she made another big step Saturday. She ran away with the women’s shot put competition with a best throw of 53-5 (16.28m), shattering her career-best mark of 52-10 that was set last week at the TCU Invitational. She became the second TCU women’s shot putter to ever throw over 53 feet. Her teammate Kelsey Samuels was second with a toss of 50-5 1/4 (15.37m).
Smith was also the Horned Frogs’ leader in the women’s discus competition with a second-place finish and a school-record throw of 165-1 (50.33m). Samuels was fifth with a throw of 147-1 (44.84m).
