TCU Impressive In Razorback Invitational
The TCU Flyin' Frogs turned in six NCAA Indoor Championship qualifying marks at the Razorback-Tyson Invitational held at the Randal Tyson Track Center on the campus of the University of Arkansas on Friday.
The Frogs were led by 800 meter specialist Jackson Langat. Langat captured the gold medal and broke his own school record by turning in an NCAA provisional qualifying time of 1:48.42. The sophomore had established the school record a week ago at Air Force with a time of 1:48.85.
The Frogs had four athletes improve on their previously established NCAA provisional marks. Senior Jermaine Joseph recorded an NCAA provisional qualifying time in the 200 meter dash with an indoor personal best time of 21.10. Junior Michael Frater finished second in the 60-meter dash with a season-best time of 6.66 seconds. His previous best mark this season was 6.69 seconds. Monica Twum also improved her standing in the 60-meter dash on the women's side with a 7.35 second clocking in the prelims, an improvement of five one-hundreths of a second over her previous season best mark. She placed fourth in the finals with a time of 7.40 seconds. Senior triple jump specialist Brandal Lawrence improved his NCAA standing with a best leap of 15.77 meters (51-09). He entered the meet with a season best jump of 15.68 meters.
The Frogs added one additional NCAA provisional mark, as sophomore La' Toya White turned in a time of 7.42 seconds in the prelims of the 60-meter dash.
"We had a good meet," said TCU Head Coach Monte Stratton. "We knew going into this meet that there was some great competition here and we responded with some impressive performances."
Other solid performances were turned in by Kendall Pyant, who finished 12th in the 400 meters with a personal best time of 47.89, and Reggie Harrell, who improved his personal best in the 60-meter high hurdles with a prelim time of 7.97 seconds.
The Frogs will be represented in today's invitational portion of the Razorback-Tyson Invitational Track & Field Meet. Michael Frater will compete in the invitational 60 meter dash, the men's 4x400-meter relay team will take the track and Aundre Edwards and Cleavon Dillon will challenge for the invitational long jump title.
