Kelley posts NCAA provisional qualifying mark in shot put

LUBBOCK, Texas - Despite an abbreviated squad at the Wes Kittley Invitational, the Flyin' Frogs won two events and posted nine top-10 finishes. Candis Kelley posted an NCAA provisional qualifying mark in the shot put with a toss of 15.35 meters (50-04.25), while Trey Jordan picked up his second victory of the indoor season in the shot put with a throw of 16.92 meters (55-06.25). The women sent four distance runners to the meet and all four finished in the top 10. Lisa Baity took sixth place in the mile run, completing the race in 5:27.27, while Halie Bullin came in 10th with a run of 5:36. Ashley Young finished eighth in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:20.94, while in the 1000-meter run, Cassie Hostick placed fifth with a time of 3:14.92. In the high jump, Rachel Joiner and Johanna Pool came in sixth and seventh, respectively. Both achieved a height of 1.58 meters (5-02.25). Rounding out the women's scores was a third-place finish from Leslie Starnes in the pole vault. She posted a mark of 3.71 meters (12-02.00) in the event. With just four athletes competing on the men's side, the Frogs posted three top-10 marks, highlighted by Jordan's victory in the shot put. Coming in third in the same event was Thomas Killen with a toss of 15.33 meters (50-03.50). In the 1000-meter run, Cody Cook placed fourth, finishing the race in 2:38.21. Finally for the men, Michael Garcia placed 15th in the mile run with a time of 4:45.45. The Frogs will make their third trip of the indoor season to Fayetteville, Ark., this time to take part in the Tyson Invitational. The two-day meet is slated to begin Friday.
