FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The TCU track and field program enjoyed a solid opening day to kickoff the 2012 Razorback Invitational Friday in Fayetteville, Ark.
The Frogs had a pair of men and women finish in the top-16 during Friday’s preliminary heats to advance into the 60-meter semifinals Saturday. Junior Charles Silmon finished fourth overall on the men’s side, clocking in at 6.78 seconds. The time was good enough for second place in the first heat, just ahead of fellow Frog Mark Barnes, who finished seventh overall. Barnes would later return to the oval inside the Randal Tyson Track Center to register a time of 21.45 seconds to claim fourth in the men’s 200-meter finals.
On the women’s side, junior Chaniqua Corinealdi cruised to a time of 7.47 to record the third-fastest time of the evening, while newcomer Lorraine Ugen turned in a 10th place performance to move on to Saturday’s semifinals. Corinealdi also ran in the women’s 200 meters, earning a 12th place decision.
From the infield, senior Whitney Gipson earned third-place honors in the women’s long jump. The North Richland Hills, Texas native nailed her top leap on her final attempt, hitting 20-4 ½ feet (6.21m). Junior Cameron Tabor continued his solid indoor season in the men’s shot put, ending the evening in seventh overall with a top mark of 55-11 feet (17.04m).
TCU will return to action Saturday with a full slate of events. The schedule will kick-off with the women’s weight throw and 3,000 meter run at 11 a.m.
