Tanui had a banner first year in Fort Worth as she made TCU history becoming the first student-athletes to win a Mountain West Conference title in the 5,000 meters on the second day of competition at the 2010 Mountain West Conference Indoor Championships ... Tanui, a sophomore from Kenya, captured first-place accolades in the women's 5,000 meters, crossing the finish line with a seasonal-best and NCAA provisional qualifying time of 17:09.46 ... Tanui, who cruised to an easy victory, became the first Horned Frog in TCU history to claim the women's 5,000-meter title in the Mountain West Conference ... She also posted the first conference title in the event since former Flyin' Frog great Mary Kinyanjui won Conference USA in 2004 ... Tanui's time when converted for altitude currently sits No. 2 all-time in TCU history ... She also placed second in the 3,000 meters at the conference championships ... Fast forward to the outdoor season and Tanui destroyed the previous school record in the women's 5,000 meters at the prestigious Mt. SAC Relays ... Tanui clocked a seasonal and personal-best time of 16:13.30 inside Hilmer Lodge Stadium to place ninth overall ... By clocking 16:13.30, Tanui crushed former Horned Frog great Mary Kinyanjui's previous school record of 16:41.81, which she set in 2004 in Austin ... The Kenya native's time at that point was No. 2 in the Mountain West Conference and ranked in the top 25 in the NCAA ... Tanui also captured the women's 10,000 meters title at the MWC Outdoor Championships with a new complex record time of 36:14.81 ... By winning the conference title, Tanui, who lapped the entire field, became only the second female in school history to capture gold medal honors in the event ... Tanui's time is the third-best time ever recorded in program history ... In the women's 5,000 meters, Tanui continued her domination on the track , winning her second-title of the conference championships, clocking a time of 17:21.06 ... Tanui closed out her first season in Fort Worth at the NCAA West Preliminary Round, just missing the final round of the NCAA meet, placing 13th overall in the women's 5,000 meters ... She also won both the Texas Invitational and Horned Frog Invitational in the women's 3,000 meters.

Central Arizona College
Tanui comes to TCU from Central Arizona College where she claimed the Junior College National Championship in cross country in 2008 before earning runner-up honors this past fall to lead the Vaqueras to the NJCAA Cross Country National Championship ... Tanui, who hails from Burt Forest, Kenya, also claimed national championship accolades in the 5,000 and 10,000 meters at Central Arizona in 2009 ...
