FORT WORTH, Texas - TCU senior Jonathon Berrettini will begin competition at the 2008 NCAA Men's Swimming and Diving Championships on Thursday in Federal Way, Wash., at the Weyerhaeuser King County Aquatic Center on the campus of the University of Washington. Berrettini will become the first Horned Frog swimmer to compete at the NCAA Championships since 1997.

Berrettini, a native of Lewisville, Texas, will compete in the 50-free event on Thursday and the 100-back on Friday. The preliminaries begin at 9 a.m. CDT and the finals will get underway at 4 p.m. CDT each day.

At the 2007 USA Swimming Short Course National Championships in Atlanta, Ga., last fall, Berrettini posted a NCAA `B' cut time of 20.10 in the 50-free, which placed second in the TCU record book. Berrettini followed three days later at the Long Course National Championships with a time of 56.69 in the 100-meter back. When converted to yards, the time of 47.33 automatically qualified Berrettini for the NCAA Championships, where he is seeded 13th in the event.

Berrettini had a breakout year for the Frogs, setting two new TCU records and also competing on two school-record relay teams. Berrettini posted a time of 44.70 in the 100-free, while also recording a time of 48.28 in the 100-back, which also ties for first all-time in Mountain West Conference history.

At the MWC Championships, Berrettini was a member of the 200-free relay team that set a new school record with a time of 1:20.39. On the final day, the 400-free relay squad claimed the title with a school-record time of 2:58.16. Berrettini led the Frogs with six overall All-MWC selections.

On the season, Berrettini led the team with 12 event wins, while also competing on 15 relay teams that took first place.
