Meet Notes

FORT WORTH, Texas -- The TCU men's and women's swimming and diving teams will Mountain West Conference rival Utah Friday at 6 p.m. CT at the University Rec Center.

The TCU women's squad will enter the meet against the Utes with an overall record of 4-3, including a 2-3 clip against the MWC. The Frogs are coming off of a hard fought loss at UNLV on Tuesday, winning eight events, but falling 166-134. TCU will look to pick up its third league win, topping the squad's 2-6 record against the conference last season. Sophomore Maria Paula Alvarez and newcomer Ashley Bolin lead the Purple and White with nine wins. Against the Rebels Tuesday, Alvarez turned in the MWC's sixth-best finish in the 1000-free, topping her own TCU record, with a clocking of 10:11.64.

The men's team (1-5 overall, 0-4 MWC) will look to rebound after a 184-113 loss at UNLV. Sophomore Jeff Gettel highlighted the meet for TCU, winning the 100- and 200-back events, earning the TCU team lead with nine wins for the season.  Divers R.J. Hesselberg and Kyle Callens continued their stellar season from above against the Rebels, sweeping both springboard events. The diving duo hold the top two MWC scores from the three-meter event this season.

The Utah women's team currently holds an overall mark of 7-0 and a MWC record of 2-0, while the men's squad is currently winless with a record of 0-4, including an 0-1 clip in conference play.

Utah's women's team has been led by standout freshman Whitney Lopus. The Scottsdale, Ariz., native led the way for the Utes last month at the Princeton Big AI Invitational by setting four individual MWC records in the 200-free (1:46.28), the 500-free (4:42.47), the 100-fly (53.19), and the 200-fly (1:56.78) events, as well as part of record-breaking relay teams in the 400 free (3:18.71) and 800 free (7:13.62) relays.

Since joining the MWC in 2005-06, the TCU women have never defeated Utah, while the men have defeated the Utes in the last two meetings.
