H2O Frogs complete day two at Las Vegas Invite

LAS VEGAS - The TCU swimming and diving team earned three event wins on Sunday to wrap up the second day of the Las Vegas Invite at the Buchanan Natatorium.
The men's divers led off the day by sweeping the three-meter event. R.J. Hesselberg claimed the top spot with a score of 297.20, and Kyle Callens earned the runner-up position with a score of 259.20. Hesselberg's win marked the second consecutive year the TCU junior has won the three-meter event in Las Vegas.
Jonathon Berrettini, a senior from Lewisville, Texas, won the preliminary 100-back event out of 65 competitors, and also claimed the win in the finals with a blistering time of 48.89.
Jeff Gettel, Josh Bagby and Jeff Hendricks also earned appearances in the 100-back finals on Sunday. Gettel placed seventh with a time of 52.03, followed by Bagby in 11th spot and Hendricks in 16th place.
Sophomore Ben Biefnes also put together an impressive showing on Sunday. The Aurora, Colo., native swam to a second-place finish in the 400-IM preliminary event in the morning session out of 47 competitors. Biefnes set a personal-best time of 4:03.61 en route to a third-place showing in the finals. Biefnes also earned a trip to the `A' finals in the 100-breast, placing fifth with a personal-best time of 58.21.
On the women's side, freshman Brittney Martinez earned the highest finish, placing sixth in the 100-back finals with a time of 58.98. Samantha Smith swam to a 14th-place showing with a time of 59.67, followed by Macy Zander in 20th spot and Crystal Shipps in 23rd position.
The TCU women also had a good showing in the 100-fly event, as Mychala Lynch and Natalie Melenric both competed in the finals. Lynch won the `B' final to place ninth with a time of 57.52, while Melenric took the top spot in the `C' final to finish 17th with a clocking of 58.92.
In relay action, the 200-medley team of Martinez, Katie Rosen, Lynch and Nikki Pappas earned a ninth-place showing with a time of 1:48.85, while the 800-free relay team of Martinez, Shannon Jones, Jessica Miles and Kimberly Jones placed 10th with a time of 7:50.67.
