H20 Frogs place third at CSU Early Bird Invitational

FORT COLLINS, Colo. - Both the TCU men and women's swimming and diving teams earned third-place finishes at the CSU Early Bird Invitational on Saturday at the Edora Pool and Ice Center in Fort Collins, Colo.
The TCU women finished third out of 10 schools with 532.5 points. Mountain West Conference opponents Colorado State (1,027) and Wyoming (532.5) placed first and second, respectively.
A pair of freshmen recorded the high individual finishes for TCU on Saturday. Mychala Lynch placed third in the 100-fly out of 60 competitors with a time of 59.70. Natalie Melenric followed in fifth with a time of 1:00.28. Fellow newcomer Brittney Martinez also placed third in the 100-back out of 71 participants with a time of 1:00.64.
Other notable performances came from freshmen Melanie Cruthirds and Nikka Campora. Cruthirds, a native of Houston, Texas, finished the 200-free in a time of 1:58.31 to place fifth, while Campora finished the one-meter diving event in seventh with a score of 205.90.
The TCU men also placed third out of six schools with 757 points. MWC opponents Air Force (1,027.5) and Wyoming (955) finished first and second, respectively.
R.J. Hesselberg also won an event for TCU on Saturday, earning a score of 319.65 in six dives in the three-meter. Kyle Callens, a freshman from Deer Park, Texas, also had an impressive showing in the three-meter dive, finishing third with a score of 266.95.
Peyro, a freshman from El Paso, Texas, also finished sixth in the 100-breast with a time of 1:00.72, followed by Cameron Allred in seventh (1:01.53).
Another TCU freshman, Bryce Orser, recorded a sixth-place finish in the 200-free with a clocking of 1:47.50.
In relay action, the 200-medley team of Berrettini, Allred, Jason Hauck and Scott McCracken placed second with a time of 1:35.70, while the squad of Ben Iannacone, Orser, Jeff Hendricks and Biefnes swam to a third-place finish in the 800-free relay (7:09.98).
The TCU men and women will return to the pool on Oct. 26, when the Frogs will host Centenary, UT-Permian Basin, Incarnate Word and Northern Arizona at the University Recreation Center.
