Scherer and Anderson Named Athletes of the Week
Nov. 13, 2012
FORT WORTH- Senior rifle shooter Sarah Scherer and sophomore men’s basketball guard Kyan Anderson have been selected as TCU’s Athletes of the Week for exceptional performances in both of their sports this past week.
Scherer led the Horned Frogs to a signature victory at the Ohio State four-team invitational as she set an NCAA record by generating an aggregate score of 1,195 (599 in air rifle and 596 smallbore). She narrowly missed a perfect score in air rifle, missing just one shot in her first round of 10 but closed out her session with five straight perfect strings of 100. In smallbore, she shot a perfect 200 in the prone position, a 198 standing and 198 kneeling.
Anderson helped the Horned Frogs advance to a 2-0 start in their inaugural Big 12 season under first year head coach Trent Johnson. He put up 13 points against Cal Poly going 3-for-5 from 3-point range, adding 10 points against Centenary as he went 2-for-3 from beyond the arc. His efforts have placed him as the team’s second leading scorer, shooting 62 percent from downtown and leading the team with six assists.
TCU rifle returns to the range this Saturday at Kentucky in an all day event. TCU men’s basketball returns to action Thursday hosting SMU at 7 p.m. on Fox Sports Southwest.
