Horned Frogs Compete At World Cups

FORT WORTH, Texas - TCU's Sarah Beard and Sarah Scherer got their summer activities off to a thrilling start as they traveled overseas to take part in World Cup events. Both competed at the Milan World Cup, while Scherer also took part in the Munich World Cup.
In Milan, Scherer took part in the women's air rifle event, while Beard was entered in the women's 50-meter 3-Position smallbore match.
Scherer placed sixth in the event after earning her way into the finals. She finished the qualification round tied with seven others with a score of 397. After shooting a five-round qualification shoot-off, Scherer advanced to the finals where she shot the second-best score of 104.5, climbing two spots to take a sixth place finish.
On the first day of the smallbore events, Beard competed in a pair of elimination relays. As part of the Elimination Relay 2 squad, she fired a 578 with 25 center shots to advance to the qualification round. In all there were 100 women competing and only 50 advanced to the qualification round. In the qualification round, Beard shot a 568 with 19 center shots.
From Milan, Scherer traveled to Germany for the Munich World Cup to take part in the air rifle event. In the event, Scherer fired an identical 397, but tallied three more center shots, finishing the match with 37 in Munich. Her score landed her a 12th place finish.
Scherer joined Beard, who returned to the Olympic Training Center in Colorado after the Milan World Cup, to continue preparations for the USA Shooting National Championships and Olympic tryouts for women's smallbore. The tryouts will be held at Fort Benning, Ga. from June 6-8.
