FORT WORTH, Texas - The TCU women's rifle team was successful both on the range and in the classroom this year. Eleven members of the squad have been honored as 2006 All-Academic Student-Athletes by the Collegiate Rifle Coaches Association for having either a fall semester or cumulative GPA of 3.2 or better. The team also earned "Honors List" distinction as the combined GPA for the firing members in the NRA Sectional was 3.0 or higher.

TCU head coach Karen Monez was proud of her squad's achievement. "The eleven team members are to be commended for their academic accomplishments," she said. "This award shows just how hard they have worked in the classroom this year."

The eleven student-athletes named to the 2006 CRCA All-Academic team were Sara Shipman, Tanya Gorin, Alicia Davis, Erin Lemmons, Pauline Cooper, Kara Griffin, Caitilin Mencio, Leah Neubauer, Micaela Mercer, Renee Ducote and Emily Conway. TCU had the second largest contingent named to the list, finishing just behind the University of Nevada's group of 14.

The University of Alaska had the highest team GPA with a final mark of 3.85. Nevada and Nebraska were the first two runners-up with GPA's of 3.67 and 3.48, respectively. Morehead State, Akron, Murray State, Kentucky, Mississippi and North Carolina State joined TCU on the Honors list with GPA's of 3.0 or higher.

The 2006 season was the most successful campaign in school history as the team earned a year-end ranking of 16th in the country. The Frogs combined a regular-season average of 4551 and a qualifying score of 4573 for a cumulative total of 9124 to earn the placement. TCU's previous high ranking had come after the 1997-98 season when it finished 26th overall.
