Nov. 6, 2001
COLLEGE STATION, Texas - Thanks to the second-highest score in school history, TCU's rifle team claimed the air rifle title at the Texas A&M Invitational. The Horned Frogs' mark of 1,437 is second only to the 1,453 they notched October 28 at Memphis. TCU also claimed second in the smallbore competition with a 4,209, good for second place in the discipline and overall. The host Aggies captured smallbore and overall crowns. The Frogs were led to the air rifle victory by senior Stacy Phillips (Georgetown, Texas/Georgetown), who's 367 tally was good for second individually. She was followed by junior Jessica Green's (Lufkin, Texas/Homeschool) fifth place mark of 363. In the smallbore, the roles were reversed for TCU as Green led the team with a 1,087, followed by Phillips' 1,052, which placed the teammates fourth and fifth, respectively, in the meet's individual standings. Senior Leticia Marquez (Alamo, Texas/Donna) contributed a 354 air rifle score and 1,037 smallbore mark, both good for sixth place individually.
