TCU Rifle Breaks a Pair of School Records at Tiger Open
Oct. 31, 2001
MEMPHIS, Tenn. (October 31, 2001) - TCU rifle concluded its weekend trip in record-breaking fashion as it set the school's all-time team and individual air rifle marks at the University of Memphis' Tiger Open on Sunday, October 28. Despite the history-making efforts, the squad was not able to overcome the meet's strong field, placing fourth among nine teams. The Horned Frogs' record-breaking day was led by junior transfer Jessica Green (Lufkin, Texas/Homeschool/Angelina College). Shooting in only her fifth meet for the Frogs, Green notched a 379 mark, good for second in the meet and breaking the previous TCU air rifle record of 376 set by Dena Putnam at the 2000 Horned Frog Invitational. Green now holds the school records in both disciplines, as she set the smallbore mark of 1,116 in the first meet of the year at the University of San Francisco. TCU's Purple squad also set the school's team air rifle record, recording a 1,453 to shatter the nearly five-year-old record of 1,435. The previous standard was set on December 8, 1996 at New Mexico Military Institute. Helping Green lead the way, senior Stacy Phillips (Georgetown, Texas/Georgetown) shot a career-high 370, good for eighth overall. The Frogs' efforts were rounded out by seniors Leticia Marquez (Alamo, Texas/Donna) and Jennifer Heim (Altoona, Iowa/Grand Island) who posted scores of 362 and 342, respectively. TCU hopes to carry its momentum into this weekend, as it travels to Birmingham, Ala., to face Birmingham Southern and UAB on Saturday, November 3 at 9 a.m.
