Records fall in Rifle victory

FORT WORTH, Texas -> The TCU women's rifle team earned a first place finish, defeating Nevada-Reno and UTEP in a match that took place in Austin, Texas. The young squad was once again led by a trio of freshman, who helped establish a new school mark for aggregate score with 4,650 points, demolishing the old mark of 4,626 set earlier this season. In the Air Rifle portion of the competition, the Horned Frogs placed five members in the top 10. Lauren Sullivan captured her first victory of the season and set a new school-record, shooting a 593 in the air rifle competition. Emily Paper established a new career-high with a score of 588, which placed third in the meet. Erin Lorenzen shot a 587 to place fourth, Nikki LeCompte finished sixth with a score of 584 and Simone Riford rounded out the TCU finishers with an eighth-place finish after shooting a 581. The combined score of 2,349 also set a new school record. The old record of 2,339 was set earlier this season at the Horned Frog Invitational. A strong effort in the smallbore helped the Frogs claim victory. With a score of 2,301 in the event, the Frogs set a new school mark for the smallbore. The old record of 2,290 was set at VMI in February of 2006. The Frogs had the top three shooters in the event with Lorenzen taking top honors, her third of the season and first in the smallbore. She shot a personal-best 580. Right behind her in second was Sullivan (576) and Riford (575) in third. Tanya Gorin finished sixth with a score of 570 and Paper finished eighth with a tally of 568. TCU claimed the title with an aggregate score of 4650.
