Frogs break three school records at Horned Frog Invitational
October 3, 2005
FORT WORTH, Texas -- Junior Nikki LeCompte set a new school record for smallbore and the team broke records in both smallbore and air rifle this weekend en route to a third place finish at the 15th annual Horned Frog Invitational.
In the team's first smallbore action of the season, three TCU shooters finished with scores higher than the previous individual record of 550 set by LeCompte a year ago against Air Force. Freshman Tanya Gorin shot a 551 and junior Celeste Green finished with a 565 but LeCompte's ninth place score of 566 set the new standard for 60-shot smallbore. Freshman Aida Garcia added a 547 to help the team set a new TCU team record in the event with a score of 2,229. The previous record of 2,147 was also set last season against Air Force. Rachel Glenn of UTEP finished as the tournament's top smallbore shooter with a score of 586 and Nevada came away with team honors posting a cumulative score of 2,311.
Junior Emily Conway paced the Frogs' efforts in the air rifle competition with a score of 568, good for a ninth place tie. Erin Lemmons and Green tied for 14th with a score of 562 to follow up Conway's performance. Gorin, LeCompte, Kristine Tisinger and Micaela Mercer all earned top-20 finishes for TCU. The scores put up by Green, Conway, Gorin and LeCompte combined to break the team record in 60-shot air rifle with a total of 2,246. The previous record was 2,231, set last year against Air Force. Nevada's Michael Tanoue and UTEP's Leah Wilcox finished in a tie for first as both shot scores of 590. Nevada earned first place in the team competition with a cumulative score of 2,311.
"It great to see Nikki rewarded for the extra hours she has spent on the practice range working to improve her shooting skills," head coach Karen Monez said. "The two new school records for smallbore and air rifle show the potential that this team has. As the season progresses, our scores should continue to improve and the records that were set this weekend will be history." The Frogs will return to action October 15-16 when they travel to Reno, Nevada to take on the Wolfpack for the third time this season.
