Green finishes tenth at NCAA Rifle Championships
March 11, 2006 FORT WORTH, Texas - Celeste Green finished tenth in the individual smallbore event at the NCAA Rifle Championships with a three-position score of 581. The senior became the first shooter in school history to participate in the national competition held at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo. The 2003 NRA All-American was nearly perfect from the prone position, finishing with a score of 199 out of a possible 200. She added marks of 186 and 196 from the standing and kneeling positions, respectively, for an aggregate total of 581, to place tenth place in the field of 36. Green's total marks the second-best 60-shot smallbore score in school history, behind only her NCAA-qualifying mark of 586 set on Feb. 11-12 against the Virginia Military Institute. She now has the school's four best scores in the event. "I'm very proud of Celeste," TCU head coach Karen Monez said. "There were 36 of the best shooters in the nation on the firing line today and her tenth-place finish demonstrates what a talented shooter she is. Her strong finish paves the way for the future success of the TCU rifle program." Alaska-Fairbanks took home the team title in the competition, finishing ahead of Nebraska and Army. The Nanooks scored 2,353 in air rifle and 2,329 in smallbore for a first-place total of 4,682.
