Rifle opens NRA Sectionals & NCAA Qualifier in record fashion
LEXINGTON, Va. (February 11, 2006) - The TCU women's rifle team defeated the Virginia Military Institute in the smallbore portion of the NRA Sectionals & NCAA Qualifier Saturday morning at Kilbourne Hall in Lexington, Va. 2003 NRA All-American Celeste Green led the Frogs with a new school record in 60-shot smallbore. The team's combined total of 2290 also marked the highest team score in school history. Green smashed her own school record in the event with a total of 586. She shot a perfect 200 from the prone position en route to breaking her previous record of 581. She set the previous record in the team's last competition on Feb. 4 versus Air Force. Junior Nikki LeCompte added a personal-best score as well, posting a mark of 575 to place her in a tie for the fifth best score in school history. Freshmen Tanya Gorin and Kristine Tisinger logged scores of 574 and 555, respectively. The Frogs' combined score of 2290 broke the previous mark of 2266 set on January 30, 2006 at the UTEP Triangular. VMI shot a combined total of 2228. The two teams will head back to the range Sunday morning for the 60-shot air rifle event. Gorin, Green, LeCompte and junior Emily Conway will comprise the Frogs' air rifle unit. Freshman Aida Garcia will compete individually as TCU closes out Sectionals competition.
