Rifle kicks off 2007 with two wins over Air Force

FORT WORTH, Texas - The TCU women's rifle team earned two victories over Air Force this past weekend in Fort Worth. The Frogs claimed the top four spots in air rifle and smallbore on Saturday to lead them to victory. A similar effort on Sunday helped the Frogs claim their fourth and fifth wins of the season.
Lauren Sullivan paced the Frogs on Saturday, earning the win in both air rifle (592) and smallbore, in which she shot a personal-best 586. It was the second time this season she topped the field in the air rifle competition, while it was her first victory in the smallbore. Emily Paper posted personal bests in both events, coming in second in air rifle with a 590 and fourth in smallbore with a 569.
Erin Lorenzen captured third place in air rifle (585) and smallbore (576). Simone Riford finished fourth in air rifle (584) and second in smallbore (579). Nikki LeCompte rounded out the top 10 in both events shooting a 572 in air rifle and a 551 in small bore. Tanya Gorin placed eighth in smallbore with a 556 and also competed in air rifle, finishing with a score of 560.
Members of the White team also participated in the competition. In air rifle, Rebecca Upjohn (554), Erin Lemmons (551), Margaret Low (525), Crystal Beasley (501), Erin Morgan (500) and Arin Stephens (495) competed, while Kristine Tisinger shot a 548 in smallbore.
The Frogs dominated the match with an aggregate score of 4,648, topping Air Force's aggregate of 4,541. TCU had a team total of 2,351 in air rifle and a 2,297 in smallbore.
Another strong performance from the Frogs on Sunday once again led them to victory. Earning her fourth first-place finish in air rifle this season was Lorenzen with a 588. She also claimed the top spot in the smallbore, tying a personal-best with a 580 for her second first-place finish in smallbore this season.
Sullivan finished fourth in both air rifle (578) and smallbore (569). Paper earned fifth-place in air rifle (577) and a second-place finish in smallbore (574). Riford finished sixth in air rifle (576) and third in smallbore (570). LeCompte finished 10th for the second straight day, shooting a 566 in air rifle, while improving to a ninth-place finish in smallbore with a 558.
Shooting in their second straight match, Upjohn improve her air rifle score to 557 while Stephens shot a 482 and Tisinger a 528 in the smallbore.
Sunday's match was a tighter affair as the Frogs came away with the 4,612-4,549 victory. They posted a team total of 2,319 in air rifle and 2,293 in smallbore.
