Rifle topped by Air Force

The Frogs fell behind Air Force Saturday in their last meet before the NCAA Sectionals at TCU Feb. 14. The team shot a 4,400 in smallbore and a 1,481 in air rifle. Sophomore Celeste Green (Lufkin/Hewitt H.S.) returned to action to place second in smallbore. Green's score of 1,170 is her highest since she broke the TCU record with a score of 1,173 Oct. 14, 2002 at the Horned Frog Invitational. Green shot a 370 in air rifle to tie for fifth place with teammate Nikki LeCompte (Manassas, Va./Osbourn Park H.S.). The freshman also broke her previous high score in smallbore with a score of 1,129 to place seventh. Junior Jess Parras (Monahans/Monahans H.S.) broke her previous air rifle record by shooting a 372 to earn a fourth place finish and rank highest among the Frogs in that event. Senior Nina Martinez (Houston/Jersey Village H.S.) also returned after not shooting in the Kentucky meet and placed sixth in air rifle with a score of 369. Freshman Emily Conway (Richmond/Fort Bend Baptist Academy) made her collegiate rifle competition debut and placed 13th in smallbore with a score of 1,004 and placed 12th in air rifle with a score of 337. The Frogs will host the NCAA Sectionals Saturday, Feb. 14.
