Streak Reaches 20 Straight Wins For Rifle

FAIRBANKS, Alaska - In their first match of the spring semester, the TCU rifle team shook off the rust to squeak out a 4,670-4,654 victory over Alaska-Fairbanks on Saturday. Hannah Black topped all shooters with a 593 in air rifle.
The Horned Frogs and the Nanooks matched each other shot-for-shot in smallbore, tying in the discipline with a team score of 2,309. The Frogs needed a strong showing in air rifle and got that as they topped the Nanooks 2,361-2,345.
In smallbore, the Frogs were led by the duo of Sarah Scherer and Sarah Beard. They were the only two shooters to fire over a 580 with Scherer taking the top spot at 589. Beard was close behind, shooting a 586.
The Nanooks were consistent on the range as they posted seven of the top 10 scores. Catherine Green snuck into the top 10 as she fired a 576. While not part of the team aggregate score, freshman Allie Taschuk fired a career-high 565. Factoring in the team aggregate for TCU were Caitlin Morrissey (569) and Black (565).
TCU took control of the match in air rifle as it posted four of the top five finishes. Black topped all shooters in the discipline as she fired a 593 that included two perfect strings of 100. It marks the first time in her TCU career she surpassed the 590 mark in air rifle.
Scherer finished second with a score of 592, while Beard came in fourth with a score of 591. Green fired a season-high 591 to round out the top five finishers. Morrissey fired a 587 to finish eighth among all shooters.
Also shooting for the Frogs in air rifle were Dowd (581), Taschuk (580), Lee (580) and Bogart (573).
The Frogs and the Nanooks will square off again on Monday at the E.F. Horton Range on the UAF campus. The first relay will commence at Noon (CST).
