Stephen Scherer begins his first season as a volunteer assistant coach with the TCU women's rifle program. The TCU volunteer assistant coach transferred to TCU in Fall 2009 after spending two seasons at West Point where he was a member of the Army's Rifle team. In his first season with the Black Knights, Scherer was selected as the program's Rookie of the Year. In addition, Scherer garnered Dean's List accolades on three occasions.
After taking first place at the 2008 U.S. Olympic Trails, Scherer won a position on the 2008 U.S. Olympic Rifle Team in addition to earning a spot on the U.S. National Team. As the youngest member, Scherer finished 27th overall with a score of 590 in air rifle at the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
Scherer has competed in China, Germany and Italy as part of the World Cup and captured gold medal accolades in 3-P Air Rifle in England during his career. The TCU volunteer assistant coach also recorded a silver medal and bronze medal in air rifle at the Canadian Grand Prix Match to go along with four silver medals at the 2006 Great Britian Junior International Match.
A resident of Fort Worth, Scherer is the brother of Sarah Scherer, a freshman on the TCU women's rifle team.
