Strength & Conditioning: The TCU Way
It's where success on the field of competition sees its beginning - in the weight room. TCU takes pride in providing its student-athletes with the finest strength and conditioning program in the country.
The TCU strength and conditioning department is staffed by six full-time coaches and graduate assistants whose sole purpose is to push Horned Frog student-athletes to become stronger, faster and more powerful while at the same time helping them to avoid injury.
Don Sommer - TCU Head Strength & Conditioning Coach - is responsible for the overall direction, design and implementation of strength and conditioning programs for all Frog programs. In 2003, Sommer was one of 10 individuals to receive the prestigious certification of "Master of Strength & Conditioning Coach" at the Collegiate Strength & Conditioning Coaches Association (CSCAA) National Conference, bringing the total number of MSCC's in the world to 36 at the time of his certification.
Nationally-recognized and respected around the country, Sommer was named College Football's 2008 National Strength & Conditioning Coach of the Year by FootballScoop.com after being nominated by his peers and being selected by a panel of former coaches and players. The TCU Head Strength & Conditioning Coach has developed a program that stresses competing, mindset development, injury prevention, strength and speed.
The TCU Strength & Conditioning staff has developed a plan to challenge student-athletes to perform beyond their limits, and by overcoming these challenges in the weight room, the Frogs have been able to put together championship performances on the playing field.
