Oct. 11, 2005
FORT WORTH, Texas -- Football's Robert Henson and women's tennis' Nicole Leimbach were named TCU Student-Athletes of the Week on Tuesday. It marks the first time that Henson and Leimbach have earned the accolade.
Leimbach won the Riviera/ITA All-American Championship on Sunday in Pacific Palisades, Calif., to become the first Horned Frog in school history to win a grand slam event in collegiate tennis. The nation's No. 3-ranked player, Leimbach defeated No. 5 Daniela Bercek from Duke in straight sets in the championship match, 6-3, 6-4. The victory avenged three losses Leimbach suffered to Bercek last season in dual matches.
Leimbach owns a record of 5-0 this season, with four of her wins coming against players ranked in the top 30 in the country. Her next tournament appearance will be the ITA National Indoors, which take place over Nov. 3-6 in Columbus, Ohio.
Henson led TCU's defensive efforts in a 28-14 victory at Wyoming on Saturday. The redshirt freshman linebacker recorded 10 tackles and returned a fumble 22 yards for a touchdown late in the second quarter to put TCU ahead 25-7.
Henson is second on the team in total tackles with 34. He has 3.5 TFLs for a total of 12 yards and one sack for three yards.
