Oct. 5, 2005
FORT WORTH, Texas -- Quarterback Jeff Ballard and women's soccer player Bjarnveig Birgisdottir are the TCU Male and Female Student-Athletes of the Week for Oct. 3.
Ballard and Birgisdottir also received Player of the Week honors from the Mountain West Conference.
Making his first collegiate start, Ballard ran for four touchdowns and passed for two scores to tie LaDainian Tomlinson's TCU single-game records for touchdown accountability (six) and points scored (36).
A junior from Friendswood, Texas, Ballard rushed for 79 yards on nine carries while completing 16-of-28 passes for 192 yards.
Ballard's touchdown runs of three and four yards gave TCU a 21-0 lead with 3:45 to play in the first quarter. His 38-yard scoring pass to Chad Andrus on a fourth-and-1 play broke a 28-28 tie with 4:20 left in the third quarter. Ballard later added TD runs of 56 and two yards for the Horned Frogs' final two scores in the game.
Birgisdottir recorded the Frogs' first hat trick since Sept. 3, 1999 (Jill Cook against LSU) when she scored three goals in Friday's 4-0 victory over Sam Houston State.
The sophomore from Kopavogur, Iceland, then scored 16 seconds into overtime to give TCU a 1-0 Sunday win over Boise State.
